Problem / Solution

Ghelamco Arena, Ghent’s football paradise, received a Prestigious Award in New York for sports infrastructure. Innovation in concept and materials and the creation of a lively environment are solid features of the project. The lighting effects and the glass façade are a real landmark. Expanded Clay blocks were used for internal walls and party walls.

Why expanded clay?

Light weight blocks were necessary for the construction of the stadium. Expanded Clay blocks were used for party walls because of their high acoustic performance. The size of aggregates used within the blocks was adapted for aesthetic benefit.
